There are several lessons from New Zealand’s pandemic response. Rapid, science-based risk assessment linked to early, decisive government action was critical. Implementing interventions at various levels (border-control measures, community-transmission control measures, and case-based control measures) was effective. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern provided empathic leadership and effectively communicated key messages to the public — framing combating the pandemic as the work of a unified “team of 5 million” — which resulted in high public confidence and adherence to a suite of relatively burdensome pandemic-control measures. Future lessons for New Zealand include the need for stronger public health agencies that can better assess and manage potential threats and for greater support for international health organizations, notably the World Health Organization.

the failure of leadership, lack of respect for scientific opinion, lack of regard for testing and contact tracing ..but what is impressive is NZ the entire population took upon the Social Responsibility., a team of 5 million.
Many Americans have demonstrated that they do not care for their fellow citizens and with the death rate higher than so many other countries and the sheer number of people dying leaving behind families grieving for them does not move many Americans, many of them supporters of the current government from taking socially responsible actions.
IN THE UNITED STATES UNFORTUNATELY INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM TO DO WHATEVER THEY WANT IS GIVEN PRIORITY OVER THE COLLECTIVE WELFARE OF THE STATE.
A college in the NE USA decided to open with 50% of the students, on conditions of Masks, social distancing and compulsory stay at school dorms to reduce the risk of communal spreading. The incoming students were to sign an honour pledge but unbeknown to the college administration, many students had rented houses so that they can continue their partying. The death of the Greatness of America USA as we know it has begun. As Yuval Noah Harari points out in his latest book, we have to take responsibility not only our nation states but as the planet as a whole if we are to avoid more pandemics, climate disaster and nuclear proliferation ..
