If you had grown up in a revolutionary household, you would have been exposed to the classical ones, such as the Bolshevik, the romantic Cuban of 1959, Mao Zedong and Zhou en Lai, but also of many of the revolutionary movements in Latin America and Africa.. You may meet a student from Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow, who was Patrice Lumumba? You may land at the Amicar Cabral International airport in Cabo Verde on your flight back from South Africa, but was he a beloved revolutionary..The Latin American region gave us Che, Salvador Allende, both graduated as Doctors ( UBA , UChile) so did Martinican Franz Fanon.. many others, but you might also have heard about TUPAMAROS the urban revolutionary group in Uruguay, taking the name from the leader of the Incas, Tupac Amaru II.
One of the guerilleros, a Tupamaro rose to become President of Uruguay and his name was Jose "Pepe" Mujica. His life history is exemplary and inspiring.
Someone from Cuba sent me this video of Mujica speaking to younger people and the other video, a longer one, is almost a philosophical look at life. Both are very enjoyable, words from this remarkable man from Uruguay, which also gave us Benedetti, Galeano.
The second video is too long to post here , but here is the link.
Ha.. the humble president of Uruguay.. who never affected a presidential lifestyle and who made a difference to the lives of millions of Uruguayans and also brought hope for so many in Latin America...
