FIDEL AND GLOBALIZATION IN THE TIME OF CORONA VIRUS 2020

FIDEL AND GLOBALIZATION
Jefe Comandante Fidel Castro of Cuba was one of the earliest opponent of Rampant Capitalism and Globalization.
He was right on the target as we see the human destruction caused by the virus, SARS-CoV-2, while the developed world was caught napping, unprepared for it. One of the reasons was indeed, an exploitation of labour elsewhere.  IT NO LONGER MATTERS WHETHER THE EXPLOITATION IS IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY OR ELSEWHERE.. THAT IS THE GLOBALIZATION PART OF IT.

One good example of this rampant capitalism and lack of human justice is the case of the largest cluster of Covid-19 (over 700 so far) at the Pork Factory in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The administrators and the Governor of the State (I do not have to tell you her party affiliation)
Blamed the outbreak on the “culture of the Immigrants”. The factory is owned by a Chinese Billionaire . True Globalization indeed!

Here it is from Buzzfeed:
“Living circumstances in certain cultures are different than they are with your traditional American family,” she explained. The spokesperson and a second corporate representative pointed to an April 13 Fox News interview in which the governor of South Dakota, Kristi Noem, said that “99%” of the spread of infections “wasn’t happening inside the facility” but inside workers’ homes, “because a lot of these folks who work at this plant live in the same community, the same buildings, sometimes in the same apartments."
But internal company communications and interviews with nearly a dozen workers and their relatives point to a series of management missteps and half measures that contributed significantly to the spread of the virus. A BuzzFeed News investigation has uncovered new information showing the company did little to inform or protect employees during the critical two weeks after the first case at the plant surfaced. Then, with confirmed cases rising quickly, Smithfield introduced new safety protocols but applied them unevenly across the plant’s departments, leaving hundreds of workers exposed.

From Google Books:
Fidel Castro is one of the keenest observers of the process of globalization åcentury, he critically analyses the workings of the imperialist world order, manifested in new forms of economic exploitation, attacks on national sovereignty, cultural subjugation, and military aggression.'The incredible and unprecedented globalization under discussion is a product of historical evolution, achieved in no more than 3,000 years of the long presence of our ancestors on the planet. The man of today is not more intelligent than Pericles, Plato or Aristotle, and we do not know as yet if he is intelligent enough to solve today's extremely complex problems. We are betting on his doing it.'What kind of globalization do we have today? A neo-liberal globalization. Is it sustainable? No.Will it be able to last for a long time? Absolutely not.Who will be the builders of the new world? The men and women who inhabit our planet.Which will be their basic weapons? Ideas - and consciousness.Who will sow them, cultivate them and make them invincible? You will.Is it utopia? No, because it is objectively inevitable and there is no alternative to it. As Jose Marti said: 'Today's dreams will be tomorrow's realities.'

Fidel Castro adds his voice to the growing international chorus against neoliberalism and the globalization of the world economy. He calls for the abolition of the IMF and asks: “Why not seek other formulas and admit that humankind is able to organize itself and its destiny in a more rational and humane manner?”

In the face of the “new world order,” Fidel comments: “To endure the global struggle between the super-powers is bad. To live under total hegemonic domination by one of them is worse.”

“Library shelves are full of books touting the wonders of globalization; perhaps there should also be room there for a dissenting voice. This volume collects speeches and written messages by Castro over the last two years… Castro has no objection to globalization; in fact, he considers it inevitable. What he objects to is the imposition of neoliberal capitalism in the name of globalization.” —Booklist

WHAT IS SO INCONGRUOUS ABOUT THIS HEADLINES ? AMLO, THE MEXICAN PRESIDENT Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador

Mexican president says Trump promised 1,000 ventilators

About a third of all medical equipment in the United States was imported in 2018. Mexico was the top U.S. supplier, accounting for about 17% of total imports

Mexico’s medical device industry is scrambling to meet an eleven-fold jump in demand for ventilators as patients with respiratory conditions linked to the coronavirus pandemic overwhelm hospitals in the United States and Europe.

BRASIL MEXICO COLOMBIA ARGENTINA CHILE.  THE NUMBER OF VENTILATORS, proportion in the Public Hospitals are not given, but they are a small proportion . Now they can beg the "magnanimous" for some of the ventilators manufactured in their own soil.

While Mexico manufactures a large proportion of Ventilators in the USA, they do not have enough for use in their own PUBLIC hospitals .. For that they have to beg the Americans..

Good Luck my latin American brothers and sisters..
Ecuador, Venezuela , Mexico, Brasil ..
