DINING EXPERIENCE WITH REFUGEES.... IN KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

As a traveller I am looking for different experiences in countries that i visit and also looking for technology APPS to make it easier.
Malaysia is a country close to my heart. Since I began travelling there in 2002, I have been lucky to be able to visit Malaysia on a regular basis, in the last six months I have been there three times and the next trip is less than one month away.
Eat With is an application in which you can see the dining experiences slightly different, in which you go to people's homes and enjoy a nice local meal in the company of other visitors or tourists.
I downloaded the app this morning and just checked Kuala Lumpur. I eat very well in Malaysia and I have numerous foodie friends, so I was not looking for an ordinary eating experience.
Imagine how pleased I was when I came across this listing, it warmed my heart!

Suzanne's story

I'm the co-founder of The Picha Project, a social enterprise that empowers refugee families in Malaysia through a food business. For the past 5 years, my co-founder and I have been working with the refugee community, and our mission is to empower the refugee community in Malaysia to be self-sustainable through a food business. We believe that food brings people together, and through food, we exchange stories, cultures, build social bridges, and break negative stereotypes that the public has towards refugees. We have hosted more than 1000 people for meals with our refugee friends, and it's truly an eye-opening, heart-warming and educational experience that you can never find anywhere else.

I made a mental note to go there on my next visit to KL. My best friend in Asia lives in KL and she is a soul with a heart so large and has been with me while I helped with projects in Myanmar and Cambodia.

I once asked her, why dont we find more and more asians doing humanitarian projects? Almost all of the humanitarian projects in Cambodia are done by Europeans, European Australians or Japanese.

She explained to me that in a society which was only a generation or two away from survival, the mentality of survival and saving and selfishness when it comes to time and money still persists. Perhaps with future generations, things may be different.
