BIENVENIDOS DR DIAZ WELCOME DR DIAZ .

Welcome, Dr. Diaz
A former director of the National Institute of Endocrinology and a well respected academic came to my little flat in La Habana for dinner and spend a couple of hours together.

We were joined by yet another senior professor from the Institute.
Cuba for a developing country, has the best specialists available to the populace and happily enough these services are rendered free to the population.

Joining us was one of the best known psychologists in her field, who also worked at the National Institute of Endocrinology for many years.

Many professionals at this level in Cuba are invited to give lectures and teach the other doctors. Dr. Diaz had just returned from Mozambique and the other professor was in Angola and had just returned from Spain. The psychologist had travelled all around the world giving talks.

This aspect of Cuban Medicine is not known to the world. Many people think that Cuban doctors want to desert the island but they are in the minority, like the unfaithful doctors from Ecuador who come to do post graduate studies in America and enter private practice or from any other country, Mexico or Spain for that matter, they serve themselves and not the public nor their adopted countries.

I salute the Cuban Health professionals who unselfishly serve the humanity in many parts of the world..it is said that many countries in Africa would have no health care and especially Public Health Medical care if not for the Cuban doctors.

So this dinner at my house hosting such  medical stars of Cuban Universe was a special privilege for me.

My Cuban sister prepared the dinner. As it is normal, when the guests arrive they pitch in and assist in the finalization of the food, such as making salads or heating up things they have brought with them.
Todays feast began
crackers and cheese of two types, pistachios, mixed nuts, olives
Maripositas which they make it at home .  (I think they are called crab rangoon in usa, nothing to do with crab nor rangoon)
salad  spinach eggplants
Main courses were
Carnero but from the farm so that they are without grease or fat and the steaks are rather juicy and tasty
Shrimps
rice and beans (the cuban caviar which my sister makes it with great unknown but delicious additives)
we had both white (from spain as well as Chile) and Red (from California).
After dinner drinks included Brandy or Almond Liqueur
We finished with lovely mango icecream
before cutting a cake and sharing it

It was an evening, such as happens in Cuba a lot, of friends getting together sharing a nice meal and drinks and talk and express our affections for each other.

It was a special night for me.
